The House on Mango Street is about a girl named Esperanza who grows up in a barrio, ashamed of her house. Even though Esperanza, in the beginning of the book has little self confidence and is very insecure, she grows up with many positive influences and has many good and bad experiences that shape her into a success. Towards the end of the book Esperanza goes through many experiences things that help her to gain the self confidence and respect for herself that is necessary to overcome the hardships of Mango Street. |

The The Absolutely True Diary of A Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is about a boy named Arnold Spirit an Indian who lives on a reservation. Arnold lives in a poor reservation surrounded by drunk Indians and a small education. Arnold does not want to be like that, growing up drinking and losing himself. So he decides to get a better education you have to go out of you comfort zones and leave the reservation for a better school in a white community. He is bullied and hated by the Indians on the reservation because they feel like he is a traitor for leaving his kind and going to a white school. |

In the beginning of the book Enzo is dying and the rest of the book is him reflecting on his life. Denny is a race driver and that has a huge impact on Enzo's life. Enzo tells us his story and his owner Denny's story. Many unfortunate events happen to the two of them. In the end Enzo dies. |
