Describe your reflections on your internship project – What went well, what should you have done differently, what stands out to you?
I overall was so happy with my experience on internship. I really felt that I was pushed outside of my comfort zone and really challenged but in good ways. I think the whole experience went well. I wouldn't have done anything differently I don't think. The things that stand out to me are how much my perspective changed about people who work retail ad for people who open their own business.

What advice would you pass on to future interns? I think future interns should be really willing. Willing to learn, to work, and to grow. I think that is the best way to success in an internship. What are the most important skills for a student to be successful at his/her internship? I really think it's communication. It so hard to not know how to communicate and build relationships with the people around you because then it feels lonely and boring. I think making relationships is super necessary. How could another student develop these skills prior to beginning internship? I think being involved in something. Putting yourself out there. Like joining a club or a team. In what ways has your internship inspired you to think about college?
I have no idea right now what I want to do for college. Have you discovered new colleges that you are interested in attending? I am not sure what I want to do right now but I am interested in Marine Biology. Have you learned about new courses to study or majors to pursue? Marine Biologist. What are you most thankful for in your internship experience? What people, experiences, situations, etc.
I thankful for the experience I have been given. I think gaining experience is so essential for life and I am so helpful to have been given this. What new appreciations have you gained through internship and how did you develop these? I have a new appreciation for the people who work in customer service because it is not very easy. What qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why?
The people around me are very creative and very hardworking and I really admire that about them. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? How might internship influence the direction of your life (college, career, goals)? I am not sure what I want to do for a career yet but I think working here has given me the opportunity to try new things and see what my options are. What presentation tools are you planning to use? A Prezi. Are you relying on notes, a memorized talk, something else? I will have some notes. How are you preparing to address questions you might be asked? I will just answer them. What new appreciations did you develop while working as an intern? Why? I have a lot more respect and appreciation for workers in retail. How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace? What did you do overall? I Made a video for new employees and I made Prezi’s going through the steps for them. What were your day to day activities/responsibilities)? Customer service, cleaning, working on projects, and inventory. What did you learn about the importance of (the role of) communication and self advocacy during your internship (with your mentor? Among colleagues?). I learned that it is important to self advocate because it is too hard and too stressful to take on more then you can do. Communication is also very important so everyone is on the same page. And so people know how everything is going. How did communication and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding of professional working environments? I think it's needed to collaborate so we all have a say in what is going on in the shop and that we all hear each other's ideas so we can give feedback. And if people need help I am able to help with it. I think being approachable is also needed so people feel safe and comfortable. You are now more than halfway done with your internship project. How is it going?
I think it has been going really well! I am having a lot of fun and learning a lot! How did your project(s) go from an idea or inspiration to a final product? Describe the project details → share out the process from beginning to end. Brandie came up with ideas for our project. What we have been doing is creating Prezis for upcoming employees, Along with that we are creating instructional videos on how to do day to day work. What did you learn about yourself through working on the internship project(s)? Discuss challenges, solutions, skills utilized & gained, and overall learning achieved. I learned that I need to be more consistent in my work and keep it up when I am doing good until the end. I learned this by constantly having to work. Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different?
Well they aren't the same thing at all. Working somewhere is totally different then going to school in basically every way except we work together a lot. How might internship influence the direction of your life? Internship has just reminded me how much social interactions matter. Going to school and being good at a subject aren't what are going to get you through life and internship has helped me with remembering that. What can you bring from internship to who you are in school? I am more open and willing to ask questions because I know it's benefiting me. How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education? Getting real world experience is very helpful to me. How was your work significant or meaningful for you beyond school and your specific internship site? Its put me in hard uncomfortable situations that I have been able to learn from. What lessons or experiences at your internship will you bring back to school to help you further improve in your academics?
A lot of what I am doing is pretty hard to get right away so it's very essential that I ask a lot of questions. I believe that being more comfortable asking questions I will help me a lot when learning new subjects that I do not understand. |
