What is the biggest challenge YOU face at internship? The biggest problem I face would be customer service, I have a really hard time knowing what to say with certain people when they walk into the store. Also, describe one challenge that arose at your internship site (related to the work the company does). While Sarah and I have been working there was an employee that was working at another of the shops that was taking money from the company. So Brandie our mentor and the owner of La Loupe had to fire her. That would have been the biggest thing. How did your mentor and their colleagues solve this problem? Unfortunately Brandie had to fire her.

I think that will change my perspective when I buy to become more humble towards them and basically all businesses. B. How has, or do, you see your internship changing the way you consider the paths your future will take? I do not particularly want to follow a path in business or management but I think it is good to try new things so I can have more options. C. How do you see your role developing at your internship? I am not sure yet but I hope to be trusted with more responsibility. What are the social interactions like at your internship workplace?
We deal with a lot of customers, there are a lot of people who come into the shop everyday so we have to be very friendly and open to work with everyone who comes in. Do people spend a lot of time socializing? With my coworkers We are always talking. We like to joke around and have fun. When it comes to a customer coming in we try to be as talkative with them as we can. Are people isolated, doing their own things? Consumers might be depending on what type of shopper they are. The staff are very extroverted. Do they work in open spaces, cubicles? We are all walking around the shop or working in the back. Is there a lot of collaboration on work projects? Yes, we are all working together to come up with new sale ideas and merchandising. How does the social dynamic impact or reflect the organization’s work? The workplace is very free spirited and community based with is exactly how it feels like with the staff. You’ve been at internship for a week now and you should have a grasp of what your internship project will be.
What will you be doing? For my project Sarah and I will be creating videos explaining how to work at the store so Brandie will be able to show those to new employees instead of having to go over everything with them. What will the final product look like? It will be a long video and maybe also a powerpoint. Which skills (academic, creative, technical) will you utilize and/or develop while you work on this project? I think I will develope some filming skills, acting, and teaching skills. How will the project benefit the organization? This will be a straight forward video for new employees that will save a lot of time for Brandie and any other person working at the time to show how to work at La Loupe Vintage. Who benefits from the work that you do at your internship? Everyone who is working there that day like, Britney, Brandie, and Selena. We all work together to have things move forward in the store. Things like steaming the clothes, pricing things, customer service, and checking for damages. Who in the community benefits from the work? People in the community who have a passion for old clothing, vintage or retro clothing. Overall, what happens at your internship site? At my internship the same things happen basically everyday, we clean, price things, check for damages, and help customers. Right now we are preparing for a Full Moon Sale. How or why do people benefit from this work? People benefit from this work by getting to shop for clothes in a clean and attractive store, with what they want, and in good condition. Choose an employee at your company and after a conversation with him or her, describe his or her education, overall career path and current job description.
Britney has worked at La Loupe Vintage for one year. She went to college for child development but went into the fashion business instead. She lived in Los Angeles for most of her life she moved to San Diego about a year ago. She has worked in other vintage stores but her last big job was at American Apparel. She currently works at La Loupe Vintage. What are you most surprised by during your first week of internship and why? I was very surprised by the amount of standing we had to do. It is mostly all standing and we very rarely get to sit down. Also we spend a lot of time cleaning the store. I did not know we would spend so much time cleaning. What is your company’s mission statement? La Loupe is founded on values not a mission Statement. These values are community, creativity, sustainability and individuality How do you see it in their work? In the store Brandie and all the staff really take customer service very seriously and since it is a small store there are not many people there so it is easy to make connections and build a community. And creativity, sustainability and and individuality are all apparent in how the store looks like and the feeling it has to it. Who is your mentor?
