What qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why?
The people around me are very creative and very hardworking and I really admire that about them. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? How might internship influence the direction of your life (college, career, goals)? I am not sure what I want to do for a career yet but I think working here has given me the opportunity to try new things and see what my options are.

What presentation tools are you planning to use? A Prezi. Are you relying on notes, a memorized talk, something else? I will have some notes. How are you preparing to address questions you might be asked? I will just answer them. What new appreciations did you develop while working as an intern? Why? I have a lot more respect and appreciation for workers in retail. How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace? What did you do overall? I Made a video for new employees and I made Prezi’s going through the steps for them. What were your day to day activities/responsibilities)? Customer service, cleaning, working on projects, and inventory. What did you learn about the importance of (the role of) communication and self advocacy during your internship (with your mentor? Among colleagues?). I learned that it is important to self advocate because it is too hard and too stressful to take on more then you can do. Communication is also very important so everyone is on the same page. And so people know how everything is going. How did communication and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding of professional working environments? I think it's needed to collaborate so we all have a say in what is going on in the shop and that we all hear each other's ideas so we can give feedback. And if people need help I am able to help with it. I think being approachable is also needed so people feel safe and comfortable. You are now more than halfway done with your internship project. How is it going?
I think it has been going really well! I am having a lot of fun and learning a lot! How did your project(s) go from an idea or inspiration to a final product? Describe the project details → share out the process from beginning to end. Brandie came up with ideas for our project. What we have been doing is creating Prezis for upcoming employees, Along with that we are creating instructional videos on how to do day to day work. What did you learn about yourself through working on the internship project(s)? Discuss challenges, solutions, skills utilized & gained, and overall learning achieved. I learned that I need to be more consistent in my work and keep it up when I am doing good until the end. I learned this by constantly having to work. Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different?
Well they aren't the same thing at all. Working somewhere is totally different then going to school in basically every way except we work together a lot. How might internship influence the direction of your life? Internship has just reminded me how much social interactions matter. Going to school and being good at a subject aren't what are going to get you through life and internship has helped me with remembering that. What can you bring from internship to who you are in school? I am more open and willing to ask questions because I know it's benefiting me. How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education? Getting real world experience is very helpful to me. How was your work significant or meaningful for you beyond school and your specific internship site? Its put me in hard uncomfortable situations that I have been able to learn from. What lessons or experiences at your internship will you bring back to school to help you further improve in your academics?
A lot of what I am doing is pretty hard to get right away so it's very essential that I ask a lot of questions. I believe that being more comfortable asking questions I will help me a lot when learning new subjects that I do not understand. What is the biggest challenge YOU face at internship? The biggest problem I face would be customer service, I have a really hard time knowing what to say with certain people when they walk into the store. Also, describe one challenge that arose at your internship site (related to the work the company does). While Sarah and I have been working there was an employee that was working at another of the shops that was taking money from the company. So Brandie our mentor and the owner of La Loupe had to fire her. That would have been the biggest thing. How did your mentor and their colleagues solve this problem? Unfortunately Brandie had to fire her. What stands out to you from their experiences?
They all seem like they are having fun and that they are learning a lot. What experiences do you have in common? That we all feel that we are being benefited from the internships. What contrasts do you see? Not many just that we are all doing very different things. Jacqueline Diaz I think the internship you are doing is very cool and interesting. I hope you are enjoying it but it looks like you are and that makes me happy! Nymeisha Shannon I think it's really cool that you feel you are being benefited by the museum a lot. I hope you are having fun! Gerardo De La Riva You look like you are having a lot of fun! And you have good selfies. A. How do you see yourself growing or changing over the course of your internship I feel that I will learn a lot more about business and how to manage it. I think that will change my perspective when I buy to become more humble towards them and basically all businesses. B. How has, or do, you see your internship changing the way you consider the paths your future will take? I do not particularly want to follow a path in business or management but I think it is good to try new things so I can have more options. C. How do you see your role developing at your internship? I am not sure yet but I hope to be trusted with more responsibility. What are the social interactions like at your internship workplace?
We deal with a lot of customers, there are a lot of people who come into the shop everyday so we have to be very friendly and open to work with everyone who comes in. Do people spend a lot of time socializing? With my coworkers We are always talking. We like to joke around and have fun. When it comes to a customer coming in we try to be as talkative with them as we can. Are people isolated, doing their own things? Consumers might be depending on what type of shopper they are. The staff are very extroverted. Do they work in open spaces, cubicles? We are all walking around the shop or working in the back. Is there a lot of collaboration on work projects? Yes, we are all working together to come up with new sale ideas and merchandising. How does the social dynamic impact or reflect the organization’s work? The workplace is very free spirited and community based with is exactly how it feels like with the staff. |
